Purple hair dye?

i have brown hair %26amp; i want to dye a small streak of it purple. a friend of mine was telling me that i would have to bleach the hair first before dying it purple so it would show up better.

anyone know how to do this or have tips?

It depends if you have dark brown or light brown hair. I dyed my bangs blue and I have light brown hair. I got it bleached professionally, but I would not recommend this if you have light hair!! As soon as the blue faded I was left with a gross puke green color streak and dead nasty hair. After I chopped the dead hair off I dyed my hair myself, with Manic Panic hair dye. It's sort of temporary (lasts around 1-2 weeks) but it's easy to reapply. I'm going to dye my hair again with Manic, either blood red (for the holidays lol) or blue again. Everyone I know loves Manic, and it always seems to give good results. Good luck!!

you dont want to bleach it first that will mess up your hair in that spot.

what you want to do is just put it were you want it.

but first do it on a little end of you hair so you can see if you like the color.

You will have to bleach it to get it to show up and last longer. I recommend you use Loreal Quick Blue Vol. 30 bleach. I naturally have dark brown hair and this is the bleach I use (I have pink hair).

My tip for you is to basically select what section of hair you want to dye and clip it using a plastic clip so that you can isolate it from the rest of your hair. If you have long hair you might want to put it back in a pony tail.

To use Loreal Quick Blue you're going to have to buy the powder in one packet and the cream developer in the bottle separately. Follow the directions on the Quick Blue packet and things should turn out fine. You're not going to have to use all of the bleach powder since you're only dying a small section of hair. You can buy the bleach at Sally Beauty (and probably other beauty stores) or online.

Speaking of the dye specifically, I recommend that you use Special Effects. Out of all of the "alternative color" brands of dye (Manic Panic, Special Effects, Punky, BWild, Stargazer, etc...) it comes most recommended from people who dye their hair such colors. It's also the brand of dye I use, and I must say it's fantastic. You can buy Special Effects in Hot Topic or online. It's about 8 or 9 dollars online and about 15 dollars in Hot Topic. A few websites they have it at are amphigory.com and garment-district.com. The amphigory website also has pictures of various people with their hair dyed each specific color so it's easier for you to pick which color you want (Special Effects makes many different types of purple).

and i've used manic panic and yes its temporary, it sucks, and you have to bleach it first.

bleaching your hair is a pain because if and when the color fades and your hair starts growing out.. you'll have a blond streak halway down your head...! bleach does not fade out of your hair. but with this dye VV if it fades, it fades back to brown.

but i reccomend colour rays. it comes in fuscia [idk how to spell that right. but its like a purple with a kind of pink tint] and the colour rays dyes are for dark hair. so you dont have to bleach first and the color comes out great! and the color lasts long.

the box of dye/highlighting dye [whatever you wanna call it..] is about 13 dollars and you can get it at CVS or pretty much any supermarket.

since you're only doing one strand and there will be a lot of dye left... and its 13 dollars, you should have your friend do some too lol. its fun%26amp;pretty. but you cant save the dye. you have to throw it out when you're done.

If your hair is light, then you should be fine. If it's darker(depending on how much you want the color to show through) you might have to bleach it.

If you really want a vibrant purple, i think you should definately bleach it first. I used Manic Panic after my hair was bleached and it doesn't last too long, it fades quite quickly. A permanent dye is much better.

I would suggest getting the purple done at a beauty salon for best results, or you can consult them for a good hair dye.
